Solar panel powering a wildlife camera attached to a tree on Tufts Grafton Campus

“Critter cams” used by the Tufts Center for Conservation Medicine on Tuft’s Grafton Campus are now running on solar energy. Led by faculty member Chris Whittier, wildlife cameras used for field research were converted to run off of small solar panels instead of battery packs. As a result, the team is significantly reducing battery waste and instances of human disturbance at field sites – saving time and money, and ensuring data accuracy.

This project was funded in part by Tufts Green Fund. Fall 2023 applications for project funding are due on Monday, September 11th.
