SMFA Professor Challenges Fast Fashion through Public Artwork
Tuesday, November, 19th, 2019 News
SMFA Professor, Samantha Fields, brings to light the inherent problems of the fast fashion industry through her temporary public art piece, desires not even our own. In this 1.5 month display and performance piece, performers interact with one ton of clothing donated by Goodwill. The show started with the folding of each item into neat piles that towered over the exhibition space. The performers are now in the process of disassembling one garment at a time into its smallest units using just a seam ripper. After the dismantling, a clothing sale clothing swap will take place on November 29, 2019, Black Friday. This piece urges shoppers to reflect upon their own shopping habits and their responsibilities as consumers.
desires not even our own is on display at 405 Centre St, Jamaica Plain, MA until Black Friday. Read more about this piece on Jamaica Plain News.
