Ride and Car Sharing

Lyft

Lyft is a preferred rideshare vendor for Tufts University. Schools and departments can work with Lyft to set up transportation programs that support the needs of your school or department. This is ideal for faculty and staff that bike or walk to work. Examples of ways a department could utilize Lyft for official business:

• Event transportation
• Business travel direct billing and auto-payment expensing
• Campus visitor transportation
• Patient or healthcare transportation to support research
• Student on-campus and off-campus mobility enhancement programs
• Volunteer or student group mobility solution

These programs are intended to be used by Tufts affiliates for transportation in and around campus at the department’s expense or for Tufts official business-related travel transportation needs. Lyft offers various business products that could fit your department’s transportation needs, such as:

Credits: For rides that recur regularly. Credits is an automated solution typically used for people needing to get to a location or specific area several times a week/month on a recurring monthly basis. Credits can be restricted by date, time, and location. Departments provide a list of eligible riders to Lyft who will receive Lyft credits. Eligible participants sign up using their @tufts.edu email once invited to the program.

Concierge: For riders who don’t have the Lyft app. Lyft’s web-based portal can be used by the departments and schools to book trips on the rider’s behalf. The concierge platform offers user-friendly booking interface that is compatible with any Internet-enabled device, such as a desktop or laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

Autopay: For hassle-free expensing autopay allows faculty to directly bill rides to a corporate account.

Codes: For one-off events or non-recurring rides. Departments can purchase codes for one-off events and rides for non-recurring programs. The codes can have a set location, time, and dollar value or they can be unlimited. The codes have a have a set expiration period at three months.

RideAmigos

RideAmigos and  A Better City Transportation Management Association (ABC TMA) is another great place to start looking for a carpool network! Tufts Boston and SMFA campuses are a member of ABC TMA, a private, nonprofit organization made up of employers, institutions, and building owners working together to advance employee transportation options, improve air quality, and reduce traffic congestion. ABC TMA provides incentives and programs that encourage employees to take public transit, carpool, vanpool, bike and/or walk to work. Boston/SMFA employees receive an even cheaper Zipcar membership through the ABC-TMA membership, with this Zipcar will only cost $25 per year. Learn more on our Commuter Benefits Program page!

Zipcar

Need to make a trip to the grocery store, move stuff, or just want to get away for a weekend with friends? Zipcar is the perfect solution. Zipcar is an on-campus, on-demand car rental service which lets you use cars (including cargo and 7-passenger vans!) when you need them by the hour or by the day, with the price of gas and insurance included. The cars are conveniently located on and off campus and start at the price of $8.25 per hour. Memberships are available to everyone 18 or older, including staff, faculty and students (including international students) from all Tufts University schools and programs.

Students, faculty, and staff can join for just $25 for a one year membership.  There is no application fee, monthly minimum, or membership deposit. Daily and overnight rates are also available. For more information or to sign-up, go to www.zipcar.com/tufts.

Turo

Turo (formerly RelayRides) is a neighbor-to-neighbor car sharing company connecting people who need a car with vehicle owners whose rides would otherwise just be sitting unused. Rent one for as little as $10/day. Borrowers as young as 21 can use this service. Learn more at www.Turo.com.
