Interested in trying Bluebikes for your commute? You’re in luck! Any employee or student at Tufts University is now eligible for a nearly 50% discount on an annual Bluebikes membership through the Tufts Corporate Bluebikes Program.  As of March 2024, a normally $133.50 annual membership will now cost just $75.50/year. With this membership, all rides under 45 minutes are free.

What is Bluebikes? Bluebikes is a bike share program available in Somerville, Cambridge, Boston, Brookline, and Everett. There are more than 3,000 bicycles at over 300 stations throughout the Boston area. Single trip, 24-hour, monthly, and annual passes are available. Learn more by visiting their website.

Since January e-bikes have been introduced into the fleet! These electric pedal-assist bikes are designed to make your ride easier, especially when facing uphill challenges or during your daily commute. They're a fantastic addition to the Bluebikes service, offering an extra boost when needed.

Steps to get your discount

  1. Sign up for a GoMassCommute account, start by selecting the appropriate button above
  2. Scroll to the “My Rewards” section on the Dashboard and click “Bluebikes Subsidy”
  3. Fill out the form
  4. Once your submission has been approved, you will receive an email with instructions to complete your Bluebikes signup.

Helpful tips as a Bluebikes rider

  • Download the Bluebikes mobile app to find bikes and docking stations across Arlington, Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Newton, Revere, Somerville, and Watertown. 
  • You can keep your bike for up to 45 minutes before docking it at another Bluebikes station, and the ride is free. If you keep the bike longer than 45 minutes at a time, it’s an extra $2.50 per additional 30 minutes. 
  • Check for the nearest Bluebikes station to your house and campus! We have highlighted ones close to Tufts’ campuses on the Eco-Map.

  • Make sure to always wear a helmet while you ride! More info on places to purchase your helmet. JRA Cycles in Medford gives a 10% discount on helmets, accessories, and wearable items for all Tufts students, staff, and faculty with a valid Tufts ID.
