Communications & Data Management Intern

Position Purpose: To create engaging visual content that reaches our audience and encourages participation in sustainability at Tufts. And to support university carbon emissions and sustainability data management through data collection and entry. 

Position Description: 

Are you always sharing the latest way to live more sustainably with your friends, family, and community? Do you have an eye for design and a knack for communicating with others? Are you detail-oriented and interested in data management? The Tufts Office of Sustainability is seeking an undergraduate or graduate intern to assist with our sustainability communications and data management. They will work under the Communications Specialist and the Sustainability Program Director to create and update outreach graphics, create and share social media content, build our newsletters, and edit our website (70% of work time). They will also support university carbon emissions and sustainability data management through data collection and entry into an online emissions software and data manipulation in Excel (30% of work time). 

 Hours & Timeframe: 

This position will be available in Summer 2024 starting late-May (flexible) 35 hours a week, primarily during business hours (M-F, 9 AM - 5 PM), and preferably in-person in our office on the Medford/Somerville Campus. Hybrid option can be considered, per discussion with supervisor. In the case of hybrid work, employees will be expected to follow an agreed upon hybrid work plan. 

Required Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Excellent writing and research abilities 
  • Graphic design experience, preferably with Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms including TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram  
  • Data entry and management experience 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel 
  • Ability to learn new software quickly 
  • Attention to detail and organization 
  • Reliable and manages time effectively 
  • Interest in sustainability 

Pay Rate: $15/hour
