Tufts recently contracted with Canon to replace the university’s current Konica copier fleet. As the Purchasing Department is rolling out the new Canon Color Copiers during the 2020 fiscal year, this is a perfect time for Tufts to reduce waste, improve sustainability, and save money. The Canon Color Copiers can print, copy, and scan, meaning most departments no longer need to have separate desktop printers. Canon will be able to remove desktop printers in your office when you receive the Canon Color Copier, and they will recycle the old printers. This University Copier Program is a big win for Tufts for these reasons:

  • Cost Savings: Printing on a Canon Color Copier costs 2¢ Black & White and 7¢ Color per page, whereas printing on a desktop printer costs upwards of 10¢ a page for B&W and up to 40¢ per page for color printing.
  • Service Maintenance: All service, toner, and staples are covered at no charge through Canon.
  • Secure Print: With secured private printing you can send any document(s) to the copier and it will not print out until you enter a password into the Canon copier. This will allow you to send multiple jobs to the copier and print them out when you need them. This also helps protect the privacy of all sensitive documents.
  • Easily Scan Documents: Scanning and sharing documents on-line decreases the amount of paper used.
  • Double-sided printing: Printing on both sides of the paper saves paper, and Canon Color Copiers can be set to automatically do double-sided printing.
  • Reduce waste: Desktop printers go through laser and ink cartridges frequently. Tufts can eliminate that waste and simply recycle toner cartridges. The university spends approximately $500,000 annually on toner cartridges, not counting the money on ink cartridges.
