Upcoming Events

The Office of Sustainability is partnering with National Grid to host a Deep Energy Retrofit (DER) Pilot Workshop. We have a limited number of slots for Tufts community members, if you would like to go please let me know and I will add your name to our group. Deep Energy Retrofits are the future of home energy efficiency and Massachusetts is leading the country with funding for them (see Council Ratifies Patrick Administration, Attorney General Coakley Agreement on Energy Efficiency Programs). There is a DER pilot project happening right next to campus that you might be able to get involved with if you are interested.

National Grid's

Deep Energy Retrofit Pilot Workshop

This workshop will be open to residential gas and electric customers in MA and RI as well as contractors, architects and other energy professionals who are interested in being involved in residential deep energy retrofits and interested in learning about the National Grid's Deep Energy Retrofit Pilot program.

November 18, 2009

from 8:30am to 4pm in Medford, MA

(Details on the location will go to responders by November 10)

National Grid has proactively offered a Deep Energy Retrofit Pilot in 2009 largely because we are committed to supporting deep energy retrofits and the US goal of 80% carbon reductions by 2050.  Since 75% of currently existing housing will still be in use in 2050, Deep Energy Retrofits are a key path to those carbon reductions.

National Grid and other Electric- and Gas Energy Efficiency Program administrators have written plans (which are not final or approved yet) to expand the pilot into 2010 and continue through 2012.

Learn the Why, What and How of DER and of the DER Pilot –

In this workshop you’ll learn the Why, What and How of deep energy retrofits and of the Deep Energy Retrofit (DER) pilot.  Current and future DER program participants will benefit from lessons learned from the pilot and from a preview of what the future pilots may look like.  Total energy savings potential for Deep Energy Retrofits will be addressed in the context of savings that can be achieved with renewables and deep energy reductions.

Presenters

Joe Lstiburek, Ph.D., P. Eng, ("Dr. Joe") of Building Science Corporation

David Legg, Building Science Specialist of National Grid

Other representatives of the National Grid DER Pilot Technical Team, along with cameo appearances by Marcus Bianchi of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and a DER builder/homeowner participating in the current pilot.

Please RSVP by November 7th by contacting Tina Woolston at tina.woolston@tufts.edu

Seating is limited. Seating is limited. There is no charge except for on site parking. If more than two persons from an organization respond, the second and later responders may be wait listed. (Wait listing will not apply for work shop sponsors, regulators and 2009 pilot participants.) (Tufts is a workshop sponsor)
