Need to make a trip across campus, to the grocery store, or want to get away for a weekend with friends? Zipcar is the perfect solution. Zipcar is an on-campus, on-demand car rental service which lets you use cars when you need them by the hour or by the day, with the price of gas and insurance included. The cars are conveniently located on-campus and start at the price of $8.25 per hour and can be unlocked with a membership card after making a reservation online or on your smart phone. Memberships are available to everyone 21 or older, including international students. Students can join for just $15 for a one year membership and faculty and staff can join for $25 (with discounted Mon-Fri driving rates).

Zipcar can help to solve parking problems in urban areas while also providing a way for people to get around without owning a car.

The Zipcar and Tufts collaboration is part of a larger effort managed by the Tufts Climate Initiative (TCI) to reduce university greenhouse gas emissions and protect the global climate.

There are currently 5 Zipcars (all Hybrids and one Town & Country) at the following locations in Medford:

  • Blakeley Hall
  • Jackson Gym
  • Miller Hall
  • West Hall

There are many Zipcar locations near the Tufts Boston campus along Stuart, Boylston, Essex, Washington, and Lincoln Streets.

For more information or to sign-up, go to Use the promotional code TUFTSZIP2013 to receive a $15 in free driving credit.

RelayRides is a neighbor-to-neighbor car sharing company connecting people who need a car with vehicle owners whose rides would otherwise just be sitting unused. Rent one for as little as $5/hour or $40/day. Borrowers as young as 18 can use this service. If you own a car, you can make $100-$1,000 per month depending upon the type of car, availability and price. There are several cars around Teele and Davis Squares.
