Biking is popular at Tufts, and many bike lanes and bike racks make the Boston area especially bike-friendly. Choose your campus below for information on riding, parking, and registering your bike, as well as general biking tips.

Tufts Bikes:

Tufts Bikes is a student organization that promotes bike culture at the university.

Free Bikeshare:

Tufts Bikes runs a free bikeshare available to anyone with a Tufts ID. Check out a bike key and helmet at the Tisch Library circulation desk and follow the check-out directions on the Tufts Bikes website.

Free Repair Shop:

Tufts Bikes has a fully equipped bike repair shop located in the garage of 28 Sawyer Ave. Bring in your bike during mechanic hours and a Tufts Bikes mechanic will help you fix it for free. Visit Tufts Bikes for hours and upcoming workshops.

Campus Center FixIt Station

Tufts Bikes has an outdoor FixIt Station on the upper Campus Center patio. The FixIt Station has all the bike tools needed to perform routine maintenance and basic repairs. Stop by to inflate your tires, adjust your brakes, or tune your derailleur. Don’t know how to fix your own bike? Visit the Repair Shop to learn from student mechanics, or check out these video tutorials.

Blue Bikes:

Bluebikes is the Boston Metro Area bike sharing system. There are more than 2,500 Blue Bikes at 260 stations throughout Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, and Somerville. The closest stations to Tufts include Powderhouse Circle, Packard Avenue, Teele Square, and Davis Square. You can also use the Bluebikes App to find stations near you and check bike availability. Tufts students, faculty, and staff are eligible to purchase a year membership at a significantly reduced price.

Explore the Area:

Head down to Davis Square and hop on the 10 mile Minuteman Bikeway, which passes through Arlington, Lexington, and Bedford.  Other nearby destinations include the Mystic Lakes, the Middlesex Fells Reservation, and Assembly Row.

Register Your Bike:

Register your bike with the Boston Campus Police Office located in the lobby of the Biomedical Research and Public Health Building at 136 Harrison Ave. After completing the registration form, your serial number is entered into a database and can be used in the event the bike is stolen and an insurance company requests the information.

Bike Parking:

Campus Parking

For a $3 cash deposit, you can purchase a key to the secure bike parking cage under the 274 Tremont Street garage. Your $3 is refunded upon returning the key. Bikes must be registered with the Campus Police. Please note that there is no long term storage available for bikes.

Bluebikes:

Bluebikes is the Boston Metro Area bike-sharing system. There are more than 3,000 Blue Bikes at 300 stations throughout Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, and Somerville. The closest stations to Tufts Boston campus include Harrison Ave at Bennet St and Shawmut Ave at Oak St West. You can also use the Bluebikes App to find stations near you and check bike availability. Tufts students, faculty, and staff are eligible to purchase a year membership at a significantly reduced price.

ABC TMA and GoMassCommute

RideAmigos/GoMassCommute has partnered with A Better City Transportation Management Association (ABC TMA) to provide commuter benefits to those who switch to sustainable commuting options. Use the GoMassCommute app to log the miles you bike as part of your sustainable commute! Biking more miles can win you monthly raffles for gift cards, gear, and more. Bicycles can be carried onto MBTA Commuter Rail trains on weekdays, expect during peak periods, and on the weekends.

WRTA Bus System

There are bike racks located on the WRTA buses that service the Grafton campus.
